Courtney Caroline 'East Coast Roots'

Oil & acrylic on canvas; 12" x 12"

This exhibition brings together a series of paintings that celebrate the ingredients, objects, and food moments that shape our sense of home. Anchored by a large work inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, the collection highlights the familiar, often-overlooked basics of cooking - those simple ingredients we reach for during the holiday season and beyond. They are everyday objects that carry memories, and the warmth of shared tradition.

Courtney Caroline grew up in the Okanagan and now creates out of her studio in Vancouver, where her love for cooking and sharing meals with others deeply informs her art. Through her work, she explore how food becomes a holder of nostalgia: a can of tomatoes, a bottle of olive oil, the salt we pass across the table, or the ingredients we gather for recipes shared across generations. Painted with her signature vibrant orange underlayer, each piece radiates a warmth that mirrors the feeling of being in a kitchen surrounded by the people we love.
